Time and Two Year Olds
OK, I'm really enjoying having our two year old grandson here, but that leaves little time for blogging. Just checking in - I'm still here and have been sprayed with apple juice, rescued our very patient Ralph from the over enthusiastic boy, watched the snow fall and the birds fly by the window, and learned to spell WATER several different times on PBS. It's a good day, but not much writing happening.

Reading Bull Rider to my class - they are LOVING it. We did have some controversy - a dad felt it was too violent to read to 4th graders - I don't think he got the context. I asked him if he thought his daughter didn't know that people were shot during war. I told him there wasn't a safer or better place to have these book talks than in my classroom. It has sparked some wonderful discussion!
Troy - thanks for sharing and I hope your dad went away satisfied. I remember when I was in fourth grade our teacher assigned us to read the front page of the newspaper and some parent thought that was too violent and worldly. The teacher said the same thing - don't you think they know, and if they don't, then isn't it time to talk about it? As a student, I appreciated being trusted to know something about the real world. Thanks for standing up for your choice.
